Quarterly ReportMethodology

Methodology

How the SunWiz Quarterly Report is measured

What the data is, where it comes from, what it excludes in each market, and what
happens when it changes.

Method and limitations

  1. These recognitions are derived from installation data reported to SunWiz by its data partners in each market, together with registry data where available. SunWiz has measured the solar market since 2009. Recognition is determined from that data alone, independent of whether a company chooses to participate, and cannot be influenced by payment.
  2. Reporting timing varies between data partners and can lag installation by up to three months. The most recent quarter may therefore under-represent brands whose partners report later in the cycle. Where a brand’s position is materially affected by reporting timing, SunWiz will say so on the page rather than adjust the figures after publication.
  3. Coverage varies by market. Each market page states what its data includes and excludes. Figures are not a census of every installation and should not be read as one.
  4. Once published, a quarter’s recognitions are final. If subsequent data revises the underlying figures, the revision is reflected in later quarters and the published quarter is not restated. This is deliberate: badge holders need a claim that stays true.
  5. These pages report measured market activity. They are not an assessment of product quality, safety, warranty performance or suitability, and are not advice on which product to buy.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate are these figures?

They reflect the installation data reported to SunWiz’s data partners in each market as at the publication date. They are a measure of reported market activity, not a census of every installation. Reporting timing varies between partners and can lag installation by up to three months, so the most recent quarter may under-represent brands whose partners report later.

What happens if the data is later revised?

Once published, a quarter’s recognitions are final and are not restated. Any revision is reflected in later quarters. This is deliberate: a company that has earned a recognition needs a claim that stays true.

Can a manufacturer pay to be recognised?

No. Placement is determined from the data alone, independent of whether a company chooses to participate. SunWiz cannot accept payment to change a placement. What is available for purchase, once recognition has been earned, is the licence to use the award device and associated marketing assets.

Why are the manufacturers listed alphabetically rather than ranked?

SunWiz publishes the recognised group, not the order within it. Where reporting timing or coverage differences could affect the order between closely-placed brands, publishing the group rather than the order is the more defensible statement.

Is this an assessment of product quality?

No. These pages report measured market activity. They are not an assessment of product quality, safety, warranty performance or suitability, and are not advice on which product to buy.
