Australian PV Installations hit the 5GW mark.

It's official, there is now 5GW of solar power installed in Australia.
Five gigawatts: 5,000,000,000 Watts of solar power - its a number that's hard to fathom. Indeed, solar power's 5GW now represents 9% of Australia's total electricity generation capacity of 56GW.
Statistics of this sort are often translated into more humanly-graspable figures by converting into the number of Australian households that could be powered by solar energy (1.25 million). Wow, pretty big figures! In fact, SunWiz recently calculated that there are over 23 million solar panels installed in Australia - a solar panel for every man woman and child.

Strategic Predictions for Solar Businesses in 2016

2015 was a turning point for Australian PV. The residential market decline set in (possibly) for good,  without the buoying influence of feed-in tariffs (and their conclusion). The residential market is already highly penetrated, and SunWiz expects the residential market to continue to contract in 2016.
Though the commercial market grew in 2015, the growth was far less than in previous years. SunWiz expects modest growth to continue in the small-to-medium commercial segment as a whole, though there will be key high-growth segments targeted by the most well-informed and successful PV retailers.

Largest PV Systems for 2015

We recently published a lot of information about Australian PV's recent milestones of 1.5 million PV systems, and a solar panel for every Australian man woman and child. The article was so popular that we're releasing additional information on the Australian PV market in 2015: the top states, top postcodes, top retailers, and largest PV systems for the year.

As part of the reports SunWiz produces for the Clean Energy Council and Australian PV Institute, we keep track of every installation over 100kW that we can find. This is important as these systems can take a year to show up in the LGC registry, or may indeed never register LGCs. If you know of a system larger than 100kW that is not represented on this list, please let us know.

Which Postcodes Installed Most PV in 2015?

We recently published a lot of information about Australian PV's recent milestones of 1.5 million PV systems, and a solar panel for every Australian man woman and child. The article was so popular that we're releasing additional information on the Australian PV market in 2015: the top states, top postcodes, top retailers, and largest PV systems for the year.

This article identifies the Top 20 postcodes for installed volume in 2015, and whether they grew or contracted compared to 2014.

How Each State Fared in 2015

We recently published a lot of information about Australian PV's recent milestones of 1.5 million PV systems, and a solar panel for every Australian man woman and child. The article was so popular that we're releasing additional information on the Australian PV market in 2015: the top states, top postcodes, top retailers, and largest PV systems for the year.

Our national tally for the sub-100kW market was 718MW, 12% below that of the year before. But some states fared worse than others.
